Air conditioners (A/C) are an important part of your home, especially during the summer. While durable devices, at some point, they’ll need to be serviced or replaced. This post will explain a few signs that you need a new one and how an expert installs them.
Five Signs You Need a New A/C
If you notice any of these signs, it’s probably a good idea to have your unit serviced or replaced if need be.
- Poor air flow
- Strange smells when the A/C turns on
- Excessive indoor moisture
- Loud noises as it runs
- A significant energy bill
If your device is older than 10 years old, it may be good to have it looked at as more efficient models are availible.
How A/Cs are Installed
After contacting an expert for assistance, they’ll send out a team to inspect the current A/C unit. This will give them a better idea of the problem and how the system is operating. Once they do, they can explain why the A/C is malfunctioning, repair options or what type of A/C is ideal for your home, and go through the installation process.
When it’s time to install the new A/C, technicians will first prep the old unit, removing refrigerant and other components that could cause issues if dropped. They’ll then disconnect the A/C from the nearby electrical outlet.
Once the old A/C has been carried away, the technician will inspect the current pad the A/C was sitting on. They can determine if this is still usable or needs to be replaced. If the new A/C is larger or more advanced than the old one, this area will usually need to be removed and redone. They’ll then lift the new A/C and place it over this area.
After the A/C is rewired, it will need to be filled with refrigerant. Often, the preexisting coils will need to be replaced even if they’re in somewhat good condition. This prevents old debris from getting mixed into the current machine.
When this is done, the technician will then turn the device on to examine it. This will help them see if there are any hidden leaks, disconnected coils, or other issues that need to be addressed.
