Your residential or commercial A/C unit relies on multiple pieces to run efficiently. But, many are often unaware of the small yet critical parts that help this machine run. Below you’ll learn about some of the most vital portions and what their role is.

Important A/C Pieces

Condenser and Evaporator Coils: Both of these coils are essential for an A/C to run properly. The condenser works to remove heat from the compressor and evaporator coil. The evaporator coil rests near the blower and catches the air that is drawn into the device. Once the air gets stuck inside, this coil will quickly remove heat and humidity from it.

Expansion Valve: This piece works alongside the condenser and evaporator coils and portions out the refrigerant as it flows toward them. This prevents it from overwhelming the coils. It also aids the A/C with converting the refrigerant faster because it doesn’t have as much to work with at once.

Refrigerant: A key part of the A/C is its refrigerant. This fluid is what develops the cool air for the A/C. After running through the compressor, it will chill the warm air that is drawn into the machine. Afterward, it will be sent back into the air but at a much cooler temperature.

Compressor: The compressor works with the refrigerant to pressurize it. It does so at an extreme rate which encourages any heat in it to dissipate.

Fan: Once the cool air is created, the fan will blow it out of the machine into the connecting ductwork. It also prevents the machine from overheating as it quickly works to produce this chilly air.

Air Filter: An A/C’s air filter prevents particles from sneaking into it while running. Otherwise, while minuscule, they could damage the A/C’s interior. Besides this, they could contaminate the cool air once it gets blown back out. It’s important to have this part replaced often so the appliance works well.

Blower: As its name suggests, this piece works to blow air out of the A/C. In addition to this, the blower can pull warm air into the machine so the refrigerant can cool it down as well.
