An HVAC is created to help heat and cool your home. It’s also meant to ventilate it by filtering through the air. However, it’s important to be diligent about replacing its filters to ensure it does a good job at this. Below you’ll find more information about why this is important and how you can do so.

Why Do You Need to Change Your HVAC Filters?

Your HVAC is designed to filter through your home’s air. It does this by pulling it into its blower and then pressing it through a filter to collect any particles before it’s sent through the connecting ducts. The ducts will then deliver the fresh air to your home.

While this is an efficient process, sometimes the filters might not work as well as they should. For instance, if you haven’t replaced your HVAC filters in the last six months, they could be clogged. If they are, this will make it harder for the air to pass through the filter. It might also allow particles stuck on the filter to get released back into the air.

Besides your health, changing your HVAC filters are important to keep your system functioning correctly. If the filters are blocked, it will make your HVAC work harder to pass air through it. This could overwhelm the machine and shorten its lifespan because it’s overworking itself.

How to Change HVAC Filters

  1. Turn the HVAC Off: The first thing to do is to turn off your HVAC. This will keep you safe and prevent you from accidentally damaging the system.
  2. Locate the Filter and Find the Correct Size: Once the HVAC is off, locate the filter. This is usually on the bottom of the HVAC system behind a small panel. When you find it, remove the panel and slide the filter out. On the side of the filter you’ll find its dimensions. Make sure that the new one matches it.
  3. Insert the New One: When you’ve confirmed that the filter is the correct measurement, put it where the old one was. Place the metal panel on top and turn your HVAC back on.
